The basic principles & fundamentals are the
same for choosing a school for yourself or your child. However, there
are special considerations when children are involved that one must look
choosing a school is to clearly understand what you want your child to
gain from learning the martial arts. Is it light recreation and
playtime? Then a community center program may fit your needs, not a
fulltime professional school! Is it self-defense, personal development
and fun? If so, then a full-time professional school will be more
suitable. Many parents view the martial arts as part of their child's
educational development and with a good professional school, it is that
recognize that choosing a school is really choosing the instructor. Be
sure to visit the school and watch the instructor work with other
children of the same age. Every school is very different because every
instructor is different. Don't get confused by claims of black belt
degrees, tournament wins or martial art styles. The only style that
matters is the teaching style of the instructor and how your child will
respond to him or her.
Finally, trust your instincts. A professional
school will have a family atmosphere, lots of smiles, and a clean,
professional and safe environment. You'll feel comfortable with the
personnel and the facility.
While this may not end up being the closest
school to your house, when it comes to your safety or the safety and
education of your child, an extra ten-minute drive can make a world of
difference in the outcome.
Trust us...martial arts is not the same
everywhere you go! In addition: ask the big question: How long does it
take to get a black belt? If the answer is less than 4 years and you
see a room full of 7 year old black belts...it’s time to visit another
Please understand, martial arts and the standards
within the schools may not be the same. In our organization we maintain
high standards for our students, especially black belts, therefore you
will not see any 8 or 9 year old black belts…it is simple, they do not
have the maturity to wear that permanent black belt.
Our procedure is to review the student and see
where their skills are according to the average student in the
classroom. In most cases, students are required to start over. That is,
learn our curriculum. We always tell the students to never forget what
they have learned but always strive to learn more.
It is our intention to secure the student’s
spirit and love of the martial arts first and foremost. We do not want
them in over their heads, we will do our best to place them in the class
best suited for their present skills.
• Will my child learn to defend himself/herself?
• Will he/she learn to avoid a fight?
• Will he/she become more self-confident?
• Will my child get hurt?
• When will he/she test?
• When will he/she receive his/her black belt?

A psychological study found that children in
martial arts have an increased sense of responsibility, a decrease in
the willingness to take foolish risks, and a higher sense of
self-esteem. This is why millions of parents are using martial arts to
supplement their children's education.
The belt system is a key ingredient to building
esteem. When children earn their belts it gives them a great sense of
personal accomplishment that really improves the way they feel about
